As the tenth lesson in Volume 4 of The Complete Guide to Godly Play it is usually presented during the season of Easter. The folk celebration of Easter eggs brings delight at this time of year. In many places Easter eggs have little to do with the Easter that is celebrated in churches, but the eggs of Eastern Europe do. Introducing children to these eggs is s a way to reclaim a wonderful sign of new life in Easter for children .
The story you will tell in the lesson is a legend, but it has as its starting point something we do read about in the story of the Passion--the encounter that Jesus has on the way to the cross with a man named Simon of Cyrene who was "coming in from the country" on the day of the crucifixion (Matthew 27:32, Mark 15:21, Luke 23:26).
We have different options for this lesson, which will fit everyone’s budget.
