Although there were no changes in the text of this lesson, we have updated materials. These are the most current.
BACKGROUND This lesson extends the core story called ‚"The Ark and the Temple"‚(The Complete Guide to Godly Play, Volume 2, Lesson 11), which introduces Israel's kings, and ‚"The Prophets" (The Complete Guide to Godly Play, Volume 2, Lesson 13). Elijah challenged the kings of Israel for their idolatry and immorality. At the end of his life, a whirlwind carried him up into heaven in a fiery chariot. Elisha picked up Elijah's "mantle" and continued Elijah's work. We have no writings from either of these two prophets, but we have their stories in 1st and 2nd Kings.
