Elizabeth was born sometime around 1271 in what is now Spain and was named for Her Great Aunt, St Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231). When she was about 12 she was married to Dennis the King of Portugal, She was renowned for her service to the poor and her many good works, Which helped create what many call the golden age of Portugal.
